Welcome to the Footfalls project

Celebrating the People of Nag's Head Yard

Footfalls is a project which aims to uncover the lives of all the people who ever lived in Nag’s Head Yard in Ludlow.
The Nag’s Head Yard building originated in the 1840’s as the private house of a former French cavalry officer. During the next century it went on to become one of Ludlow’s most popular public houses. Today it is still standing but in its new incarnation as a bed and breakfast enterprise.
Over the last year we have worked with hundreds of members of our community and a wide range of artists. We have spent time in archives and searched a variety of records. Our aim was always to widen Ludlow’s understanding of its own heritage by exploring the lives of working people through history. Specifically those with an association to the Nag’s Head Yard.
Footfalls ran as two exhibitions. The first at the site of the Nag’s Head Yard itself and the second at Ludlow Library.

A row of five small houses nestled behind a pub, Nag’s Head Yard has seen a lot of life pass by. Its prominent position on Corve Street, one of the main roads into Ludlow, makes it significant in many ways.
